I started gybethejib in 2008 as a way to share my big pacific sailing trip with my friends and family. After that trip it has morphed into a way to share my ongoing sailing shenanigans. I have met some wonderful people, fellow sailors through this blog which has inspired me to keep it going.. Viva gybethejib!
My sailing madness started in England where I learnt to sail and then moved to the states in 2001. Got blown around in san francisco bay with breezy races on my J/24 (Nixon was Cool…) and coastal/offshore cruising on my Beneteau First 38s5 (Sudden Stops Necessary)
In 2008 I decided to take a break from work and go cruising. I spent 2 years refitting Sudden Stops Necessary and sold Nixon. I left San Francisco in Oct 2010, did the Baja haha, crossed the pacific ocean and sailed all the way to Australia selling my boat there in Feb 2012.
Suffering from chronic sailboat withdrawal symptoms I got my J/92 Secret Agent Man in March 2012 which I cruised and raced on San Francisco Bay. In 2015 I moved to Amsterdam and got my fourth boat, a Beneteau First 38 JK, which I am now using to explore the Netherlands and surrounding areas. I am finally getting some ROI on my foul weather gear 🙂
